Question: What is BotStar?


Answer: BotStar is a chatbot builder platform that lets you design, develop and train your own chatbots for Messenger and websites. All of this without coding!



Question: What are Blocks?


Answer: The BotStar is an amazing place to start your chatbot. You can create one by just dragging and dropping blocks onto the canvas! Blocks are categorized into 4 types: Basic, Action, Advanced, and Premium Add-on. Each type of block typically does a specific function for you in creating your custom bot - like placing text onscreen or responding with appropriate responses when someone chats with it about movies they love. Basic blocks are like packages, they carry messages or anything that you want to visibly deliver. Basic blocks aren’t usually used for complex actions but can help with organizing the conversation structure of a bot! So what are these Action Blocks then? Well, you know how sometimes when we’re chatting with our friends on social media or texting they’ll say Send a pic ? That’s an action block! It means that the person has asked us to send them something. When your chat bots cross this it will automatically do all of those things like tagging someone in a photo and sending it their way. Pretty cool huh?! Advanced blocks are usually found in big and complicated bot flow, or bots designed to perform tasks such as exporting data to any CRMs that are unavailable with other tools. Some of them were created for developers so they could use all the features BotStar has available. In the Premium Add-on, you can create a better conversational experience for customers with Dialogflow and perform complex actions into Google Sheets without writing any code. You’ll be able to use these blocks of functionality from within your bot project’s sheet at will!



Question: What are Elements?


Answer: Elements are the most basic building blocks of a bot. They contain everything from simple text messages or images to other attributes that allow more advanced actions like asking for input, and finding out about users’ past behavior. To avoid making chat bots entirely reactive where they always ask you to enter text manually into chats by hand, there’s a wide range of elements you can add in your flow such as Text Elements, Media Elements Buttons and Quick Responses



Question: How do you use a Connector?


Answer: A Connector connects 2 blocks together. Each connector has a source block, a target block (destination), and maybe more than one condition. If you have two connectors with the same output going to different destinations it is possible that when data flows through they will be in competition as their conditions for reaching their destination are being fulfilled by incoming values at the same time - which could result in an error such as ‘Condition rejected.’ Luckily this sort of thing doesn’t happen very often because there’s usually only 1 or 2 routes from point A to B depending on how your logic works out!



Question: What is a Variable?


Answer: One of the features on this chatbot is called variables. They capture all kinds of information that was given to it by people chatting with it, and then use them in conversation! The great thing about these guys is they’ll keep track even if you log out or delete a conversation - so be careful what you say when your boss walks in next time. The operator can also turn off ‘Do Not Keep Conversation History’ which means that as soon as someone logs into their account again, any old data will disappear.

Question: Can I customize my chatbots behaviour?


Answer: You can customize your bot to be more human-like by setting up Behaviors in Settings, including: Set up read receipt & typing indicator, Set up human takeover - This will allow you to take over the chat when needed. You’ll have a button and typing indicator pop up so they know it’s not coming from an AI. Set it so that your chatbot responds automatically. You can also create a greeting message so that they know who they’re talking to and dead end messages for when the conversation ends
